Why watered down apple juice can be healthier but not for your wallet

There was a great article on the web today from Fooducate.com on “Mott’s is Watering Down Kidding Drinks“.

“They’ve [Mott's] introduced a line of juices for young children – Mott’s for Tots, with 40% less sugar, but 10% more expensive. Not a lot of food science went into this formulation. Mott’s simply replaced 40% of the juice with good old water. Marketing science – yes.”

This is a good article that first describes how fruit juice is really condensed fruit.  You can frequently find four servings of fruit in a glass of orange juice.  This is one of those “healthy foods” but your much better off eating those 4 oranges (or apples) over the course of a day (more fiber, longer time to eat, less chance to over eat), especially for weight loss.

The article also explains how companies frequently make “healthy” foods more expensive for no good reason other than their own profit.  This perpetuates the myth that ‘healthy is always more expensive’ when really ‘healthy MARKETING is always more expensive’.  If your a busy mom that needs to save the time by all means do it!  We know moms have a lot on their plate, just be aware that you are paying for the convenience.
