I was lucky enough to be chosen to participate in a weight loss challenge sponsored by Nutrition for You. I cannot say enough good things about the program and the people working for them. I lost 21 lbs. in 8.5 weeks, and learned a tremendous amount about how to eat.
One of the big differences for me was the telephone coaching that I received. While it was great to be able to see what I was eating as it was calculated online, it was having the discussions with the …

Sharon’s interest in nutrition started when she was overweight in her early teens. She wanted to lose weight but did it the unhealthy way by eating too little and exercising too much. She later realized that moderation is key to a successful and safe weight loss. Her experience with being overweight and losing the weight prompted her to major in Dietetics at the San Francisco State University so that she can learn more about nutrition.

Fifteen years ago I lost over 45 lbs while on a liquid diet under the supervision of my doctor. Within 6 months, half of that weight was back on. Within 5 years it all caught up with me. Spacing meals and snacks three to four hours apart helps keep the body fueled. Choose foods that are high in complex carbohydrate and add a small amount of protein and heart-healthy fat to stay fueled longer.
For example, snack on Ak-Mak whole wheat stone ground sesame crackers and some turkey deli slices. Four Ak-Mak crackers is one allowance of carbohydrates and an ounce slice of turkey is one allowance of very lean meat.
