I learned a bunch of great nutritional practices from the Challenge and continue getting great reinforcement about these. Honestly, there’s really nothing easy about nutrition for (most) people like me who really love food. I’ve learned to adopt a lot of helpful nutritional habits such as bringing my own snacks and lunch to work, buying most of my food at grocery stores as opposed to eating out, always eating breakfast and eating small frequent meals, all of which I continue to do.
My current weight is actually the same weight as …

I was lucky enough to be chosen to participate in a weight loss challenge sponsored by Nutrition for You. I cannot say enough good things about the program and the people working for them. I lost 21 lbs. in 8.5 weeks, and learned a tremendous amount about how to eat.
One of the big differences for me was the telephone coaching that I received. While it was great to be able to see what I was eating as it was calculated online, it was having the discussions with the …

Fifteen years ago I lost over 45 lbs while on a liquid diet under the supervision of my doctor. Within 6 months, half of that weight was back on. Within 5 years it all caught up with me. So over the past ten years or so, I’ve been fighting (and losing) the “battle of the bulge” to take the weight back off. I tried numerous “fad” diets or specialty diets to try and lose weight including Atkins, the Zone, and South Beach. …

Brussel sprouts are those miniature cabbages, which are, rightly so, part of the cabbage family. They are readily available throughout the year but their peak season is from September to mid-February.
Like other cruciferous vegetables, Brussel sprouts are full of phytonutrients with potent anti-cancer properties. They are also a good source of vitamins A and C, potassium, iron, folate and dietary fiber.
You can sometimes find Brussel sprouts still attached to their stalk in farmers markets but usually the buds have already been removed when sold in most grocery stores.
How do you …

This is a great question! I would like to clarify the difference between food as comfort food and food as reward. Enjoying pleasurable or comfort food is natural and healthy. But when you make food a goal, a punishment, a reward, or emotional fix, then you get into unhealthy habit territory. Food should not be used to fix a bad day or to celebrate a good day. If you want a cookie, it should be because you want to sit down to enjoy it, not because you feel you …

The holiday season is with us. Celebrations and holiday parties abound. Along with all of the festivities we need to remember to enjoy ourselves while maintaining our wonderful habits and health during the holidays.
Holiday Habits Redefined
Remember to eat every 4-5 hours or have a snack in order to not skip meals or eat at irregular meal times, which can result in the risk of overeating.
Share portions when eating out at restaurants. It makes the occasion more intimate and special.
Carry appropriate snacks such as 5 dried apricots, 6 almonds, …
